About The Canine Perspective and why Sarah chose to write this book:

I’ve wanted to write a book for as long as I can remember. And I was finding, during my 20 years as a Force-Free Canine Behaviour Specialist, that I was getting asked the same questions repeatedly. (Like “What’s the hardest breed to train?” The answer is “human” by the way. Hands down. Every time).

So, during a forced sabbatical from my canine behaviour consulting business due to ill health, I decided that it was the perfect time to put pen to paper (or, more accurately – fingertips to keyboard) and write the manuscript that had been simmering inside me for quite some time.

This book is not your average dog training manual. Yes, there are practical tips on solving common dog behaviour problems that I see in my practice, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a funny, no-BS, real look at dogs and behaviour. There’s a chapter on raising an empowered puppy, assisting our golden oldies, and helping our anxious and reactive furry friends.

There’s information on how to choose the right dog for your family, understand what your dog is saying and how to raise kids & dogs together (without going batsh*t crazy). It’s a book designed to help give you some insights into why dogs do what they do, why we humans respond the way WE do, and how we can do it better.

There are some tricks of the trade and top-secret titbits that your dog trainer probably won’t share with you. There’s brutal honesty, me on my soapbox, anecdotes, bad jokes, funny stories and a few swear words (I do live with a tradesman, after all!), and what it’s like living with three crazy but insanely adorable Pugs.

Simply put, The Canine Perspective: Using Force-Free Methods to Unleash Your Dog’s Pawtential (potential) will have you laughing, crying and in awe of these wonderful creatures we call man’s (or woman’s) best friend.
