This month, we are thrilled to spotlight Rely-Ability, a phenomenal powerhouse in the Disability Sector dedicated to empowering individuals with NDIS plans!

For many years, I believed that success meant continuing to push through, regardless of how I felt. I’d often find myself sometimes falling asleep with my finger on the keyboard, trying to get those last-minute things done. My to-do list was always a mile long, with endless tasks and unrelenting pressure that I’d put on myself. I’d been a solopreneur for many years. (And a single Mum.)

I pushed through exhaustion and ignored my body’s signals, but instead of thriving, I found myself hitting the wall, burnt out and unable to function for more than two hours a day.

Through my own journey (and what I share in my Thrive book), I've learned that rest isn’t a luxury—it’s a requirement AND a productive business strategy! When we rest, we recharge our minds, regulate our nervous systems, and reconnect with our creativity.

It takes us out of survival mode, and we can be more expansive with our thinking and listen more to our inner guidance and intuitive nudges and downloads!

Rest is even more crucial for neurodiverse business owners, whose brains often process more information at once.

Here are three simple ways to incorporate rest into your routine and watch yourself and your business thrive:

1.     Build Rest into Your Schedule One

Of the most transformative changes I made was scheduling breaks as non-negotiables. In Thrive, I talk about the importance of “micro-rests”—small pauses throughout the day to breathe, stretch, or step away from your desk. I found that if I was tired, a 10- —or 20-minute nap meant I could complete a task much faster than trying to just push through. It actually saved me time in the long run.

2. Prioritize Sleep Without Guilt

It’s tempting to sacrifice sleep to squeeze in more work, but poor sleep decreases productivity. When I prioritised 7-8 hours of sleep, I made better decisions, solved problems faster, and showed up more confidently.

3. Embrace the Power of ‘No’

Burnout often comes from overcommitting. In Thrive, I share how learning to say “no” to tasks, clients, or opportunities that drained me, allowed me to focus on what truly aligned with my goals and helped me to protect my time and energy.

When you allow yourself to rest, you’re not slowing down your business—you’re fuelling it.

If you’re ready to break free from burnout and build a business that supports your wellbeing, my Thrive book offers practical tools to help you get there.
